Student Home Learning
At The Coppice, we fully appreciate that, for many of our students, school is school, and home is home. However, some students and parents/carers have asked us about homework, so we have introduced some apps to the students that they can use at home should they or their parent so wish. Their progress on these apps can be monitored by staff and achievements will be recognised. There is, however, be no expectation that students complete any work at home unless they want to do so.
The apps will help students to improve their English and maths skills, and further details about each one can be found below. This is a complete list, but individual students will only be given logins for the apps most appropriate for them.
Lexia Core 5 or Lexia PowerUp
Students have access to one of these two apps for their English skills – you will see log in details for one of these at the end of this letter. They can work through the program at their own pace, improving their vocabulary, reading and comprehension.
There are two main ways to access the program:
- Using your web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, but not Internet Explorer), go to www.lexiapowerup.com and then use the student’s login details.
- On an Apple device, download the Lexia Core 5 or Lexia PowerUp Literacy app, then use the student’s login details.
The first time the app is used on a device, it may ask for the teacher’s email address, in which case please use jenny.jones@coppice.set.org. This address is to be used only to set up a new device; any queries about Lexia or any other issue should be directed to the school office.
Most students will complete the placement tasks in school, which means they can work within the program at the correct level.
Mathletics or Mathseeds
Students have access to one of these two apps for their Maths skills. There will be activities set on these platforms for students to complete extra activities, consolidating their in-class learning. They also have opportunities on both platforms to engage in games and activities to further develop their skills.
Both programs can be accessed using a web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, but not Internet Explorer). Go to www.login.mathletics.com or www.mathseeds.co.uk and then use the student’s login details.
Most students have completed work on the platforms in school and are familiar with platform features. Any technical issues should be directed to the school office.
Times Tables Rockstars
Some students will also have access to Times Tables Rockstars. The aim of this application is to support the development of times tables fluency. There are various ways on the platform to do this, including gigs and jamming sessions. If a child is focusing on a certain times table, their maths teacher will make them and their parents/carers aware.
This platform can be accessed using a web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, but not Internet Explorer), go to www.ttrockstars.com and then use the student’s login details.
All students who have access to this will complete relevant assessments to ensure that they are working at the correct level. Any technical issues should be directed to the school office.
