What is Catch Up Funding?

Schools receive an additional £500 for each pupil in year 7 who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of KS2.  Maintained schools do not receive funding directly from DfE.  Year 7 catch up premium funding is allocated to the local authority and they then pass it on to schools.

How year 7 literacy and numeracy catch up premium should be used

The individual needs of each of the pupils who attract the year 7 catch up premium should be assessed to decide the best way to use the funding.  For example, funding could be used to pay for:

  • individual tuition
  • intensive small group tuition
  • external services and materials, such as computer based learning resources

Year 7 Top up funding has been discontinued from September 2020
