Welcome from the Headteacher

Diane AhearnWelcome to The Coppice Academy. I hope that the following few pages give you an insight into how we nurture and support young people to fulfil their dreams.

At The Coppice every student plays their part in making our Academy a unique learning environment. Each young person has talents which we recognise and encourage, relationships and friendships to develop, challenges to overcome and a bright future ahead of them to look forward to.

Our team of highly trained, enthusiastic staff provide each student with an exciting, individualised learning programme which engages, motivates and fosters a love of learning. Students are constantly stimulated to become the best they can be; academically and personally.

Well-equipped classrooms, excellent quality of care and cohesive multi-agency working ensure that the diverse needs of all our students can be met. Learning in the community and vocational education skills empower students to become meaningful contributors to society.

Learning, Achieving and Growing Together is our mission statement. We believe in the abilities of our students and their successes never cease to amaze us and make us proud.

I am incredibly proud to lead The Coppice Academy. Talk to our students and they will inspire. Visit The Coppice and you will see learning in action, achievement before your eyes.

Love to learn, learn to live

Our curriculum starts with our students, their needs, their aspirations and dreams for the future. Specialist staff and parents work together to promote life-long learning. At Key Stage 3 students cover the same National Curriculum subjects they would experience in a high school; all work is tailored to individual abilities. At Key Stage 4, students are allowed to choose options including horticulture, travel and tourism, graphics, child care, music or safer road skills. The themes of independence, personal responsibility and making 'good choices' are central in all we do. A wide range of extra-curricular opportunities cater for the wider interests of students and include violin and guitar lessons, sporting activities, art, gardening and lego clubs.

We believe, you achieve

We give students the tools to achieve their dreams. Our excellent facilities include rooms for cookery and woodwork, a specialist ICT suite, an orchard and extensive playing fields. Students work towards a tailored programme of academic qualifications including GCSEs, BTECS and ASDAN awards.Learning in the community, residential visits, personal responsibility and Work Related Learning opportunities all contribute to the progress students make. Students leave The Coppice Academy ready for the next phase of their lives; going on to further education, college, employment, independent living and even university.
